Finally started to use the sketchbook that my friend Abbi gave me months ago, mostly for notes initial research for my photography project and doodles. I am an art student and I still can't draw. (they look NOTHING like the people they were meant to be, oops)

Surreal, dude.
Two of my final pieces of work for my A2 surrealism project, I was looking at the idea of the greek god of Chaos Janus, and how he was always depicted with two faces, different expressions, as well as experimenting with my photoshop skills to produce this work.
This is only a few months old and I can see all the flaws in it and I want to fix them but it's too late now...
Tell me what you think?

Oxford
On wednesday of last week (November 7th) I went to Oxford with my new college to Oxford, I genuinely have no idea what the relevance of the museums we went to was to our work or anything like that but it was an enjoyable day and I'd like to go back. as you can see I took a lot of photos and learnt a little about a lot, like the flight of boomerangs, how people used to shrink heads and how big an albatross is. (flippin' huge!)

Southampton Solent University Open Day
Went to Southampton Solent open day today, I got there in good time and had a tour around the campus before going to a talk, If it's not completely obvious from my blog I am/want to be a photographer, but the first talk I went to was on Photojournalism (I had an hour to spare) I didn't for one moment think I wanted to be on this course, Journalism really isn't my thing but I am very interested in reportage and documentary photography. It was interesting and informative on what to expect if I did go into the photojournalistic world. I had to leave the tour early to get to the photography talk, but spoke to the photojournalist tutor and told him that I was interested in photography but wanted to see what the photojournalism was all about since I take photos for my stepdad's racing team (CM Motorsport) which is definitely in the photojournalism criteria.
The Photography talk itself didn't really excite me, but I was given a book of this years student's work, and it looks pristine, I'm totally keeping it for inspiration. after the talk we got to look around the facilities which look very good, the building it was in had been recently refurbished, and there was a large wet and dry black and white darkroom as well as a just as large colour darkroom. I asked the tutor about alternative processes and he said they did a workshop on calotypes and ambrotypes etc which sounds good.
The only negative* I could find was that the rest of the campus looked a bit old, and it's too close to home, I need to move away, I need my independence, I need to grow up.
I'm glad I went to the open day because I got voucher for a free cup of tea from costa, which was lovely, I went shopping after and bought some cute mechanical pencils (HB, ooh my drawing tutor is going to cry a little). I went to the Art Gallery and bought a book called Dan Hays Impressions of Colorado, I thought it was a photography book, I just read a bit it's actually full of paintings that look like highly pixelated digital photographs. Plus it was only a pound, awesome.
I got the bus home, and started to draw people on the bus, I really need to stop this, I always feel sick when I get off. my arm was pressed against the window whilst drawing this since I had someone sat next to me made it hard to keep the pencil still so I'll call it experimental drawing.

This guy looked miserable, so I drew him. |
When I got home my mum had put the christmas tree up and decorated it. so I guess Merry Christmas...?
again I am not a writer, please correct any grammatical errors that may be in this post... please.
Bonus: I listened to part of the soundtrack from Buffy the Vampire Episode "Hush" whilst writing this and it's thoroughly creeped me out.
*haha see what I did there, negative... hohoho it's a photography blog oh I am so funny.

Hey look a text-y post
Today, my dear friend Abbi came down to Southampton to visit me, she called me when she got off the train and suddenly her phone cut out, I called her, no answer I texted her no answer, by this time I was out of my mind with worry, had she been mugged?! Had she been kidnapped?! Had she been stabbed?!?!
Turns out her phone cut out because she had no credit, I was nearly crying in the street thinking the worst, I was holding back tears ;__;
After all that we had lunch and went to Ikea, nearly bought a chair and left to go to a cute café. We went to the Art House Café on Above Bar Street and had a cup of tea (well I had a cup of tea bought by Abbi because she is lovely and I am a bum with no money, Abbi had a hot chocolate with too much vanilla essence in but that was another story) The Café is absolutely lovely, there are doodle books and sketchbooks dotted about to just draw or write in, a little vintage clothes shop and a gallery upstairs I think, we didn't go up there... I think I'm going to make it my new place to get work done/drink tea/draw ah it was such a lovely place!
Alas, we had to part after a day of catching up, and on the way home, I saw a puppy running around the street, on quite a busy road at night, I stopped and tried to get the dogs attention, and it was running round in circles in the road! I managed to grab him but he was jumping too much for me to be able to read the tag on his collar, luckily though he ran back to outside his home and the front door was wide open, I saw someone through the window of the house and pointed at the dog, he came out and went to the dog. I left without saying anything else... I think he picked the puppy up and tried to get my attention again but I just walked on, I probably should have stayed but it was dark and cold and I'm new to the area... I'm just glad the puppy is safe now.
also my copy of once more with feeling arrived, so happy!

Blue
as part of my colour theory lessons I had to pick one colour to research collect and use. Here is just a of the photos I've taken purely looking at the colour blue, It's worked quite well, because I think too much about the technical side of photography and way too much about the final image, this has given me a new kind of freedom to play with and I feel they've worked well.
