Pages from my Sketchbook

Oh, It's been a while, I do apologise, I've been doing many new things lately, much less photography, in fact I've decided to do a degree in Fine Art, as opposed to Photography, more freedom, more opportunity to expand my practice. I'm still taking photos, and I can use photography as another medium in a fine art context. I've applied to UCA Farnham and accepted a place with AUB as my Insurance choice

This post is a collection of scans from my sketchbook, this is the first time I've really kept a sketchbook, and I've started to take it with me everywhere I go. I've found It's a great help in developing ideas and my own drawing skills.

some pages are just backgrounds ready to be drawn on when the moment or subject arises

ever notice how many people are on their gadgets on public transport, it's easy to draw them, they don't move or even look up from their phones

speedy drawing, without looking at the paper.

me + deadlines = no thankyou

Collage in relation to one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands Turn On the Sun Again by The Real Tuesday Weld

a self portrait, gone wrong.

These last four pages will be worked into, the bottom two I think I'll use in life drawing tomorrow afternoon

more music inspired collage, The Real Tuesday Weld - I Always Kill the Things I Love and Ghosts

Amy tried to draw...

Sometimes I convince myself I can draw, and sometimes my drawings come out pretty awesome, most of the time however they don't.
Here's a post full of drawings I've made that somehow turned out pretty awesome.

So this first image is actually the most recent attempt I've made, It's a drawing of someone from a photograph by one of my favourite photographers on flickr [click here], I felt compelled to draw him for some reason, most likely it was his wonderful hair.
Ah, these were drawing's of ceramic statue's I'd found about online, my apologies I cannot remember the name of the artist or even a link to where I found the image, It was a very cool set of work, the basic principle was that a lot of ceramic dolls are cutesy and always nice, the artist wanted to keep their nice, sweet expressions but do things like rip their guts out and make them hold them like a bunch of flowers or just chop their heads off and rip their brains out, very morbid, but rather intriguing. [relevant link]
Just a simple doodle, I quite liked drawing his stubble, and attempting to draw accurately from life... never again, I'm horrendous at keeping true to form.

oh, and my concentration levels in biology lessons hmm.
(bonus the rainbow was from a simple chromatography demonstration in a chemistry lesson)

I have a Strange Habit

See the top image, I found it on deviant art and I thought, wow, this is an awesomely composed photo. Why oh why is it so orange?
so, it upsets me when i see an image that looks fantastic compositionally but then hasen’t been edited at all (it may just need some minor tweaking to show it's strengths) Often I see images like these print screen them and edit them to my liking, satisfied i'll then just delete them since it's not my own work.

My point is editing photographs is as old as photography, why do people just leave images like this? Basically I thought this person could have edited this image to get the 'true' colours out, rather than just leaving it, so with permission I edited it to get the colours back. (I assumed this was taken at night time lit by street lights from the orange hue and with no flash they used a high ISO hence the colours and the noise on the image)
I don’t know it just upsets me when there are great images not or badly edited.

My weird online habit, and now you all know.

Well, let's get started then shall we?

Okay. Where to start...

Hello! My name is Amy and welcome to my new blog that I may actually start using properly. I guess I'm a Student Photographer and I like to experiment with wacky and new/old techniques and ideas
It will probably consist of a lot of photography related things, rants, ideas, successes, failures, inspiration etc.

So It's summertime and I've finished doing my A-Levels (finally...) I took Chemistry, Biology and Photography. Love Photography, lost all interest in Biology and Chemistry (at A-level anyway, science is still cool).

In September I should be moving house and starting an Art Foundation Course at Southampton City College, and hopefully/maybe onto uni after that, so far I've only looked at the Art University College Bournemouth, and I've got my heart set on it. Not to mention I love the city.

So I Just wanted to say I should be updating this blog with things related to photography, design, art and such. Though knowing me, I'll just post rubbish (or you know actually blog).

Here, have a photo of my face:

Well, that'll be all for today, I'll spend some time getting the blog layout looking good.
